In 2020 we installed a solar array on our warehouse which offsets 100% of our yearly electricity usage in the office and warehouse spaces. Currently we are working on an office re-design that will bring us to full net-zero in the office and warehouse, wile increasing the space and amenities available to employees. By 2035 we plan to offset 100% of our scope 1&2 emissions, and by 2025 will have specific targets regarding our scope 3 emission reductions and offsets.
We know we have a long way to go on this aspect. We have started by joining the Alberta Living Wage Network to ensure that not only does every Lynnwood employee earn a living wage (which they all do), but all our vendors and subcontractors are also paying their employees living wages. Lynnwood has worked hard to ensure employees are treated fairly and given high quality employment by nearly all metrics, that said we can do a much better job with our social impacts within the community. Our upper management, Board of Directors and supplier diversity is poor. We need to do better at leading change in this area.
Another area we are currently lacking, but have started working on is pushing our suppliers for information on their social practices. We are pushing for reports on the status of manufacturing facilities, and full ESG transparency from some of the larger manufacturers.
Ownership has committed to an in depth investigation on what we can do, and a written plan by end of 2023.
This is another area where we can improve some areas. Our current mission is a more traditional corporate approach to the mission statement. Although we believe strongly in doing things better, and leaving a Net Positive impact on this world, we have not done a good enough job crystallizing that in words yet. Our mission, vision, and corporate strategic plan need some updating. As we grow our business and evolve as people, we will need to keep this up to date. Taking small steps is a start, but we know that in order to reach our true goals we need to be more proactive in this area.
